Why see a nutritionist ?

Nutrition deficiencies can initially result in minor ailments leaving us feeling tired, fed up & unable to exercise. An unchecked modern diet can play a role in the development of chronic disorders. Many people believe that a "well-balanced" diet is sufficient for all our nutritional requirements, but many nutrients are lost from food before they reach the body, due to modern farming, food processing & cooking methods.

Multiple factors affect the nutritional requirements of an individual. These include genetic makeup, age, medical history, exposure to pollution & the ability to digest and absorb nutrients.

How can a nutritionist help ?

A nutritionist advises people on how to improve their overall health by studying what their bodies really need in terms of food, vitamins & minerals etc.

Optimum nutrition aims to provide you with the daily balance your body needs for optimum performance. Finding the foods which will help you to achieve better health & also avoiding those which may not suit you, "health is not merely the absence of disease or pain - it is about feeling great with an abundance of vitality ".

What happens during a consultation ?

Prior to your consultation you will be asked to fill in a Nutrition Questionnaire. Symptom, lifestyle & dietary analysis will be used to identify your own personal nutritional needs and sensitivities. Recommendations about diet & lifestyle will be made. A personalised supplement program is usually devised & a full information pack is provided with clear guidelines on your diet and supplement program. There is usually a follow-up consultation, two-four weeks later, as nutrition is not a quick-fix regime & can take up to three months before feeling the real benefit. Nutrition is about treating the cause, rather than the symptoms.
